NRT & Associates, Inc. currently specializes in community outreach that leads to "building diversity and strengthening inclusion." Projects for 2018 and beyond include serving as a diversity and inclusion consultant for owners and developers on both public and private projects that have MBE (Minority Business Enterprise) and WBE (Women Business Enterprise) goals and Section 3 HUD (U.S. Housing and Urban Development) requirements for contract awards and employment. In addition, there is a new focus on removing barriers, which includes access to capital, technical trainings, and contractor matchmaking.

Community Outreach (Construction)

NRT & Associates, Inc. first began its work by providing community outreach and contract compliance services to the construction of a new $150 million privately financed sports and entertainment facility nearly 20 years ago. Services included cultivating relationships with external organizations and community leaders to support diversity objectives and to provide leadership, counsel and strategies for advising management on urban issues. The firm has continued to provide outreach services to owners, developers, and construction management teams on numerous projects throughout the area.

Community Outreach (Education)

NRT & Associates, Inc. served on a public relations team for a state department of education to develop a public awareness campaign on new academic content standards. The firm also provided community outreach services to the state agency in their effort to inform parents statewide about new academic content standards and the importance of reading with a special emphasis on reaching families in school districts in academic watch and academic emergency, the African American community, and Appalachia. She also founded and directed the National Association for the Education of African American Children with Learning Disabilities.

Although the following are no longer offered as stand alone services, the experience gained is drawn upon for providing expert consultation to clients in a wide variety of areas:

Event Planning

NRT has coordinated state and national conferences, trainings, and other events, including a series of national conferences for state legislators on arson, a state conference on barriers to employment, and several statewide and national trainings for parents and community leaders on issues in education. Local experience includes a citywide heart healthy/physical exercise event, a public issue campaign event, a children’s introduction to golf event, and a series of health forums.

Government & Media Relations

NRT coordinated a statewide grassroots and media campaign in eight major cities over a period of three years in a bellwether state, which resulted in the passage of new building code regulations. NRT has participated in several ballot issue campaigns for the purpose of directing fund raising activities and community outreach. Working with the print, television, and radio media to generate positive coverage of activities has been a component of almost every project conducted by the firm.

Organization/Project Management & Fundraising

NRT managed and nurtured several non-profit organizations through their founding and early stages of growth with the goal of eventually putting in place ongoing, permanent staff. The company created and managed a highly-respected and acknowledged national advocacy organization for African American families who have children with learning differences. Although fundraising is not offered as a singular service, the activity is an integral part of building any non-profit organization.

Research & Writing

NRT provided research and writing support for a legislative proposal to create a center for the interdisciplinary study of education and the urban child at a state university. A widely-distributed parent handbook was written and published for the national advocacy organization currently under the company’s management. NRT has also been engaged to write news releases, brochures, newsletters, annual reports, and other documents, including articles for distribution on a wire service.
